Paul Allen writes about the unusual bio of Michael Moritz and nails down one important success formula:

"In the Francisco interview, Moritz says in order to build a Google-like success, founders of company's need to build something useful for themselves, which turns out to be useful to many others. They shouldn't just set out to make a fortune by building a company and selling it. They have to be totally committed to building the best products. I love this advicelinks.

My first startup, Infobases, Inc. published religious and educational CD-ROMs. Our mission was to identify the most important texts in every field of human knowledge, digitize them, and make them available on CD-ROM using the Folio VIEWs search engine. Dan Taggart and I often said to each other, it doesn't really matter if we succeed or not in business, as long as we have these products to use for ourselves."

Great advice!
