The WSJ had a long review of Xlibris in the weekend issue. We had Xlibris discovered here some month ago. The article gives more inside about the company:

  • authors pay a setup fee for publishing a book between US$ 500 - US$1,600

  • Xlibris provides basis marketing as well as additional customized services that can cost as much as US$ 2,000 additionally

  • Xlibris published 10,269 books so far (sums up to roughly $ 6 million in revenue totally)

  • only 352 have sold more than 500 copies

  • the average sold copies is 132 items per book

  • Xlibris estimates to reach revenue of $ 8 million this year (up from $ 2.5 million in 2000)
