Hehe, Dubai is one of my favorite places in the region. I have been there a couple of times :)

But Dubai had a) big oil revenue for initial investment b) lot's of expats c) is a hub in a region that lacks simple infrastructure d) is just a city. India has far further to go. No doubt a special economic zone of Bangalore can make it but the whole country with so many people rooted in agriculture??

Dubai or the whole of Emirates is just like a small Indian province.

It just has oil and foreigners running its economy!!!

India, has all that and much more. Westerners are today running to India so as not to have missed the economic miracle that India has created to bolster the global demand. Along with China of course.

The Irish Premier, the French President, Saudi King and Bush are all packing their bags and heading to visit the Economic Wonder of the world..in the next three months.

The West has ageing populations. Australia, Canada, Europe..they all come begging to India to attract people, who can work and keep their economies running.

Even China is soon going to feel the impact of ageing population because of its one child policy.

Jermy, let not the gauddy glitter of a city fool your eyes. There is much more to life than what meets the eye...the real substance always lies beneath.

This is wishful thinking. In my openion, the combined economies of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and India are roughly equal to that of China. I would also add that the population, food production and land mass figures also add up to about the same.

With about 20% of the population, 16% of the food production, 8% of the land mass, 17% of electricity consumption, 15% of the cell phones and other factors China should have 15% to 17% of the World Economy.

I personally think it is rather hard for India to overtake, but when i see that China itself is a communism country where English is hard to accept and that India is an economy where people talk English and live democratically, I would say , YES, India WILL overtake China and USA.

It will happen well before 2050. India s GDP is growing at 10% per annuum. If only the Infrastructure, especially Power Generation problem is addressed by the Govenment immediately, the growth rate will be even higher. China is growing at a rate triple that of US in the 1930s-40s. But India is more efficient in its growth than China. As greater Liberalization in trade is expected in future, it is confirmed that India will surpass established economies of the world.

India only dreams to be the largest economy, and so do the Indians. India has nothing but to brag about the non-existent and admire saying that nothing is impossible. Even if one day in the 30 th century India becomes the largest economy, the Indians will continue to be "Cunning" and "Lazy". The second thing is that in India, people only talk about thing, they don't work. They compare themselves with the hard-working Japanese, Chinese and The Americans. As India is growing, it is approaching to become the WORLD"S MOST CORRUPT country beating Pakistan. In India, whenever anybody visits the police station, he has to take at least some $50,000 to be given as bribe. India is ULTIMATLEY THE POOREST AND THE MOST CORRUPT country in the world. It ranks 83!!! whereas USA ranks 9th in Anti-Corruption. In india, the mind and the backwardness of the people Can NEVER transform itself into prosperity, its probably Impossible. There are as many as 5 Lakh villages, in which most of the people are still uneducated, and even dont know anything about pen and pencil. India, on the whole, can never succeed, but dreams only. . . I wish India were destroyed completely by the British !
