Video over Wifi

SiliconBeat reports about Video54 a company that enables easy video streaming via Wifi. Could it be that the company solves a problem that does not really exist? Judging from my new 802.11g router things works fine even without any optimization. Seems simple steps in better Wifi standards might make the tool obsolete?
