the big rounds...

Jeff comments on the big rounds of the day:

"Webroot raised $108 million in first round Financing, yeah that's right, 1 0 8 million. That's a hell of a lot of bank that I assume will be used to acquire other companies. I heard that the founders were largely bought out, but have no means to verify that.

On another note, venerable Xdrive Technologies is rumored to be on the block. This is a company that raised over $122 million in financing and was valued at the last round at $275 million (granted, the last round was in 12/00). How does a company not find a business model that works with this much capital and time, and how does a company that has such a fragile business model get valued this richly? Of course I'm asking this rhetorically because I know how these things work; Asera raised well north of this in financing and was valued at over $1 billion and they still went bust."
Jeff you should know it :-)
