so Yahoo has ads in RSS

Filed in archive Technology on October 8, 2004

Yahoo has RSS ads now. Great, so what is the big deal about? There has been buzz about RSS ads for some time but I ask myself if this is not a "buzz of the unexperienced"?

In fact the RSS content area can display any HTML tags and contents besides Javascripts (what many advertisers rely or better relied on) for insertion into a site. So Google Adsense could not work and many other affiliate programs. Creative Weblogging advertisers have always gotten their place in our RSS feeds (banner, contextual text links). That was never a problem. And judging from our growing subscriber list we haven't annoyed to many readers with it.

If you ask me what should generate more buzz is using an XML API as Amazon.com or lodging.com do. These web services make it possible to find related information in a sellers database and display it within the content area. Mixed with a Keyword technology like Google's or Vibrantmedia.com this could be the next big thing in affiliate marketing, isn't it?
