several interesting investments

Is this just the Web 2.0 conference or are we finally seeing full recovery of early stage investments? If you read this blog for a while you know I do not specialize on funding reports that much anymore but I always feared there would a day with too many fundings to cover things appropriately. Venturewire has half a dozen impressive and interesting rounds today:
- Altair- a grid computing company has secured cool US $30 million
- Pluck - is a pretty interesting news gathering service - I had seen another clone recently but don't remember the name. Pluck founders also don't have to starve soon as US $8.5 million in series B are a good commitment.
- Expway has developed an XML standard (yet another one) for transmitting large XML files over the web and has brought in the standard into MPEG7. Can anybody here explain me what this means for MPEG? Can I see movies online and request them through XML or what's the trick?
- Critcal Mention also does not need to shy away they have a pretty innovative service to control broadcast airings and are now backed by US $2 million
- Jotspot - has finally announced the round of cool US $ 5.2 million in series A. Although I was speaking to the Jot chief programmer the other day and have a beta account - I was not really aware of what is so special about this wiki. Jonas has more.
- Finally rumors sicker through that SixApart has done another round with relatively modest US $5 million. Thanks Russell for pinging me
