outsourcing to India - deeper analysis

Filed in archive Global Economy by tj on July 15, 2003

As a follow up on my article last week, Wired features a nice and funny story. It researches deeper on the result of working for a company servicing US clients.
The authors claims that night shifts:

  • detoriate family relationships

  • supports "extramarital affairs"

  • assuming a foreign accent for long periods causes sore throats

  • let employees suffer from constipationlinks and acid stomach

  • are evil in general

  • are the reason for war in the world

  • and are really, really not good :-)

Note: The last three points are not directly mentioned in the article!
Well an attrition rate of 40% per year and absenteeism of 5-8% are not really surprising. Although nobody says it's healthy to work during the night, day time operations do fight with the same hassles in India.
