Business 2.0 has a more optimistic article on mobile gaming. It focuses on a portray about Sorrent.
"Ballard will be the public face of a company that's already assembled an impressive set of credentials. Sorrent sells its games via 9 of the 10 biggest wireless carriers in the United States, including Verizon Wireless and Sprint PCS (PCS). Sorrent Studios, the company's development arm, has also created a number of innovative games, assisted by some interesting licenses. Houston Rockets superstar Yao Ming headlines Sorrent's basketball game. Sorrent has an e-commerce agreement with Fox Sports through which the company has already sold several hundred thousand games, at anywhere from $2 to $5 per download. "What they've done is build near-console-quality games for wireless devices, says John Smelzer, Fox's vice president for business development. "It's really whet our appetite for the platform."
