Lufthansa considers buying a stake in Swiss airline as The Deal suggests. Swiss Airlines has failed to reach financial targets after the relaunch last year. Usually competition is the main driver for airline ticket pricing and therefore very appreciated by myself, but in this case it seems inevitable, that we'll see some consolidation.

Definetely this is risky, but consider that LH will be able to practically eliminating a competing hub with Zuerich. If Crossair regional flights will be bound for Munich it will not matter much for swiss and austrian customers and improve utilization for the long-haul flights dramatically.

Right, the issue about emmission from planes in the border region has been an issue for a long time now. However it would make me wonder if LH is politcally motivated to bid for Swiss. It has to make financial sense. LH is denying a bid actually. Seems they just wait until it's cheaper to buy :-)Anyway which European or US airline can afford to take a stake in another near bankrupt sister?
