LifeLog captures your live!

Filed in archive Technology on July 21, 2003

In extension to some broader statements some weeks ago here about the importance of bandwidth the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has just finalized the solicitation of bids for the LifeLog program. It seeks to provide a system generating a second digital memory of living persons.

The LifeLog program is conducting research in the following three areas:
1. Sensors to capture data and data storage hardware
2. Information models storing the data in logical patterns
3. Feature detectors and classification agents to interpret the data

LifeLog aims to capture, "what(ever) the user sees, hears, and feels. GPS, digital compass, and inertial sensors capture the user's orientation and movements. Biomedical sensors capture the user's physical state."

The captured data should be accessed by memorizing episodes of life, as much as a human brain does.

The goals for military use are arguable, but it's remarkable that an authority puts funds into such a forward-looking project!
