Stefan has written down some interesting thoughts , why the need for bandwidth will not end too soon. I fully agree with him that the demand for a lot of applications is still very high. Until we haven't fully digitized all media there will be no stop. The other push will come from recording your life. It sounds a bit geeky, but in the end it tremendously increases your memory.
But just consider what happened in the last years with processor power demand. It hasn't ended but slowed down as most applications do actually run sufficiently for most users. The other thing is spending restriction. This will slow down the growth as people will not be able to increase spending endlessly. The percentage of income, spend for telecommunications, has steadily increased in the last years. But until we have all media trough an internet connection it needs two or three generations of broadband connection.
