Renewable Energy World is reporting that venture capital investment is on the upswing - at least in the green technology sector of the economy.
Third quarter numbers are out, and they're encouraging for both VC's and the greentech sector.
- Q1 this year saw 59 deals worth $826 million.
- Q2 saw 85 deals worth $1.2 billion.
- Q3 saw 112 deals worth $1.9 billion.
Where did the money go?
The dominant investment sector was solar with $576 million invested in 29 deals. Following solar was biofuels with $513 million invested in 17 deals and smart grid with $160 million invested in 14 deals.Makes me want to ask lots of questions. Is the VC industry betting that the Energy Bill before Congress will pass? Or is it just that obvious that the greentech industry has to grow. And will the rest of the VC industry see this kind of recovery soon? We'll see...
