"This was a great opportunity. I never really wanted to be an editorbecause all my life I've been a reporter and a writer and I loved it. And when I was at BusinessWeek for nearly 18 years and Forbes before that for four years and Fairchild [Publications] for five years, I always thought that I had one of the best jobs in the world. Part of that was just going out and interviewing and living in the skin of people whom I interviewed, and vicariously experiencing their lives without having to take the risks that they were assuming. But when the chance came to actually run my own show and run Fast Company, I thought about it and I said, 'You know, I've been writing about this stuff all my life. I think it would be great, really great, to try to run my own organization and do something special here."
