The World Economic Forum released it's 2004 report on the Lisbon goals set by the European Union to become the world most competitive region. The report (pdf) shows that there is much to do to reach this goal. Europe still falls short with the notable exception of Finland behind the US. Also interesting is the "European Singapore" - Estonia that seems to be on the right track for a extremely competitive economy.
