entrepreneurship in Germany

Filed in archive Entrepreneurship on September 5, 2003

I recently discovered the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, a research program that assesses entrepreneurial activity on a yearly basis. More than 20 countries have participated and provided data about entrepreneurial activity. A great resource for this topic! The report for Germany has some interesting conclusions:

  • In 2002, roughly 3.5 % of German adults are actually considering to start an own business.

  • German venture feature relatively few (international) market potential.

  • Asia, Latin America and former British empire countries are in lead of entrepreneurial activities.

  • Germany is at position 24 regarding entrepreneurial activities and at position 12 regarding general entrepreneurial climate worldwide.

  • The fear of failure is still a big hurdle for German entrepreneurs to overcome.

  • Total Entrepreneurial Activity has fallen significantly stronger in Germany than in other countries after 2001.

  • The biggest pluses for Germany are infrastructure, IP protection and subsidies.

  • Hamburg, the place I'm living scores highest in Total Entrepreneurial Activity for entrepreneurs in Germany :-)

A country with healthy entrepreneurial climate does have a good future at stock markets, so take this site as fairly good advice, in which country you should invest long-term in....
