entrepreneurship in China

The site features an interesting article about sprawling entrepreneurship in the mainland.
"Visit any Chinatown on the planet - outside of China that is - and the immediate first impression is that of sheer commercial energy. Hustling! Bustling! The small shops and street merchants of Chinatowns the world-over exude an energy that is nearly palatable. What, then of the mainland? Shouldn't that be the ultimate "mother-lode;" the biggest source of entrepreneurial energy there is?
Shanghai, of course, buzzes like no other city, and in nearly every Chinese municipality there is a quickening of the commercial pace as you get nearer to the self-employed. But, would you really, truly, consider China a world-leader in entrepreneurship? Apparently, it is. At least that's what the 2003 GEM is concluding."
