ebay finalized another aquisition last week eachnet. I keep wondering why there is no online auction service in Russia & russian speaking countries? There are difficulties with the legal system and fraud protections there indeed, but Moscow and St. Petersburg plus Kiev are a substantial base of possible users in the first round. Has there been any attempt to establish this kind of service in Russia?

Thanks. They are about to come in Russia. Still strange for me that nobody wants to 'venture' into this market...

Yep. Good points. However this situation does not differ much from China. The urban areas in Russia have pretty much improved and feature an ok mail delivery. The banking system is agreeable for small amounts. I mean online auction systems are such an old fashioned idea, that I'm still surprised that Russia and Eastern Europe is so less served. But anyhow, there will be someone, who receives the ebay offer in future then :-)

I think China is completely different in that it has very good infrastructure in a few metropolitan areas and its political-economical system is stable.
