Fons points me to the sole eBay competitor that is able to get some customers away from ebay - Chinese taobao.com. Taobao.com claims it does not want to introduce fees for at least 3 years.

Behind ebay is Chinese media entrepreneur - Jack Ma father of alibaba.com who just revealed that alibaba.com has just turned profitable in 2004. I always thought the USD 82 million infusion has been on the basis of a strong profit. However Ma will have no problem financing taobao.com for some time. Let's see how this goes...
