DEMO 2006 Coverage Part I
Filed in archive Events by tj on February 7, 2006

So a late flight from SFO and one hour time difference to Phoenix made my arrival later than I would have hoped.
Thanks to Jeff I still had the opportunity to catch up on to the list of presenters.
We don't have podcast for the morning session, but this will change in the afternoon and for tomorrow. Also DEMO will make more video and audio feeds available as the day rolls by.
The line-up in the morning presenting session:
Moobella is making ice cream and does this freshly at your request:
"Imagine the best ice cream you've ever tasted. Now imagine ordering it from a machine at the mall, the museum or your campus center. Every scoop of MooBella is made just for you! Right on the spot! Whether it's Premium or Low Carb..."And as I heard they will also have a booth in here - that is a real filler.
Blurb provides on-demand book printing. Jeff says it's similar to Qoop. Blurb's books are less for aspiring literalist it's more a fun application to get a paper based polished form of your online content.
Bones-in-Motion helps you to track your outdoor fitness achievements:
" BiM has developed a service for outdoor enthusiasts called BiM Active. This service re-purposes the mobile phone into a portable life recorder that can be taken with you to enhance outdoor activities and enable sharing personal location and relevant information with others. Operation is quite simple and wireless communications makes viewing the activity results immediate..."MP3Car is platform and also a retailer that allows car manufacturers to integrate PCs in cars and allows 3rd party applications/devices to be connected.
If you are building a Car PC and need some ingredients like the touch screen display and a power supply that goes into hibernation every time you stop your engine this is the place to buy.
Digismart (could not find a URL so far) is a miniature projection systems that displays 3 feet images from a cell phone or other small gadgets.
Would have loved to see it - check out a PDF with nice slides here.
Accomplice Software is according to Jeff:
"...networked todo list management with a few clever functionality - including the ability to store the application and related data on a USB key (note to self: go check that)..."
Grassroots Software takes a hard pitch against Microsoft - it allows you to combine audio, video and text and also integrates PowerPoint. PowerPoint is already installed on 95% of office computers and can work with audio and video (though video is often clumsy and not interoperable).
Network Streaming is a new offspring in the myriad of tech support applications:
As Jeff notes:
"...support desk product that allows tech support reps to remote control customer desktops and analyze/fix issues. Network Streaming downloads a small appletSimply speaking that is what VNC already promises.in a few seconds that - once authorized - allows the rep to take over the PC."
Also check out Peppercon a solution based on a PCI card that also works when only a blue screen shows up at the client.
Interprise Suite is a free web-based CRM. I honestly thought the time is over to launch a web-based CRM system...
TinyPictures - I was not able to find out what is the secret sauce of sharing pictures on phones. Radar the company's product allows you top do that.
Ugobe's mission is to:
"UGOBE develops and markets revolutionary robotic technology that transforms inanimate objects into lifelike creatures that exhibit stunning, organic movement and dynamic behaviors. UGOBE's groundbreaking line of robotic creatures called Life Forms, promise to inspire and entertain the child in all of us."Ray Kurzweil will surely appreciate the company's mission and presentation...
Zingee thinks we really need another online file sharing tool....
GarageBand - as it seems not founded by Garage Ventures has demo'ed a collaborative filtering mechanism for music.
Multiverse Network helps to develop and design virtual world application. Interesting to see that once an industry (or sub-sub-industry) is established, frameworks move in that help with the dirty work and let developers concentrate on the creative parts.
I joined the presentation here with CNet. CNET presents an ad server, which promises to help you with cross selling products on your websites. The presenters say it matches the one of Amazon that invests millions to show matching items.
I always thought that most of Amazon's recommendations come from their Collaborative Filtering mechanism. What users click and buy becomes a recommendation for others. Of course this needs somebody to go first...
GuardID Systems presents IDVault a product that helps you to remember all computer passwords with just one access password on a USB like storage stick (but looks more like a Padlock). The idea is surely good - but haven't we seen this already? You are in for just 50 bucks.
Biggerboat is s specialized entertainment search site. It's SimplyHired for the movies and music and uses multiple sources including Movielink and Cinemanow (both good sites that lack marketing of all means) in order to bring you the best search results. The site is not live yet unfortunately. Biggerboat also comes with its own vertical advertising program. Seems these things can be built easier and easier.
If you would like to know more about one of the presenters - let us know and we'll organize an interview.
