Obviously the car rental industry is changing in Europe. The number of car hire companies decreased by 30%-40% in most european countries. And finally the Internet has been discovered by the industry.
Germany comes a bit late into this development, but moves strongly (isn't that always the case?). Navicar , Sixti and Interrent have been started to emulate the business model of easycar. Now they all compete for cost conscious customers willing to accept a no frills car at low price. The discount model is based on a purely internet based sales, miniature service and automated internal processes.
Actually it seems Sixti is in the lead, but the regatta has just set sails. And as competition heats up it's terrible for executives but great for consumers!

At least there is some movement going on in the car rental industry. I think easycar will face a bloody battle unless they create a special competitive advantage, making them unique.

easycar just yesterday announced the retreat from Holland. Germany is on their list for 2004 now.
