business angel lounge
Filed in archive Entrepreneurship on September 25, 2003
I had the chance to attend Catcap's business angel lounge on Tuesday evening in Hamburg. It aims to bring together business angels and entrepreneurs. Overall four companies pitched for financial investments between 100k and 1 mio. + angel consultancy. Most of the company presentations have been very focused and an useful discussion arised afterwards. I hope to see more of these valuable events in the future. The business angel culture as a tool for finding seed investments is still in its infancy in Germany, but things are progressing.

So do you know what investments came out of that? From what I see, BA investing in institutional circles is pretty much dead, BA seed money is coming only from personal contacts and networks.

It's too early to see if investments are really flowing for the four presenting companies this time. Some BA's in the audience seemed really interested in a potential investment. Catcap says that most (>75%, I guess) of the pitching companies in former events in their BA and Venture lounge are financed nowadays.
Indeed the image can arise that presenting companies are second choice as it's always better to keep your entrepreneurial ideas in the background until the launch.
But I don't think these events are dead. The offer a very targeted audience for a small fee. Zuerich/Munich based b-to-v.com also said most deals they have presented this year could be completed.
Things are improving a bit after some dull years....
