A better Tivo?
Filed in archive Technology on January 26, 2006

SiliconBeat comments on the latest round of Sling - a better Tivo that let's you stream your recordings from the PVR to whatever device you wish (even you cell phone). The company apparently raised $15 million in its latest round.
If you follow the product tour it seems super easy to stream recorded TV. Thousands of users have figured out how to do that with their Tivo but it needs some digging and knowledge about streaming standards.
Apparently Sling has packaged this succesfully together. I have no idea what upload speed it needs to stream to your laptop but if the device works as advertised it could silently win the fight for the hub in the Digital Home!

Ben,
you are right. Sling merely does the streaming of different sources and I have not seen anything about timeshift or recording capabilities of any kind.
I was too bullish :)

But I don't think the sling allows you to pause live tv, record programs, give you program data, etc. etc. as any real PVR does.
