This is a bold statement by Reinhard Sprenger a self appointed management guru. But besides his marketing statements he has some good points.
(Translated by myself) "The reason for a non-performing manager is often not his personal Attitude or commitment, but rather wrong timing for his position. Times are changing, so do markets, people, and public expectations. But managers often stay as long they hardly fit into the new job description. "
"(About motivation)...it's often much more necessary to stop to discourage employees instead of constantly trying to motivate them. In fact the most discouraging factor statistically in a company is the boss nowadays."
"(About the right mix between employees and employer) ....everybody can choose: Do I want happiness or am I right. Most Germans will choose to stick with a company and prefer prove that they were (are) right."
