2003 entrepreneurship data for Germany

The University of Cologne finished work for the GEM report for Germany in 2003.
- in 2003, roughly 5.2 % of German adults are actually have recently started or are considering to start an own business (total entrepreneurial activity)
- According to the report personal estimation of chances starting a business have come down up strongly (in opposition to a the trend in other GEM countries) while the estimation of own skills needed for starting a business have increased.
- fear to fail to start a business is still flourishing, 49% answer yes compared to 22% in US, only Japanese and French entrepreneurs have more fear
- Germany scores well in public infrastructure and public subsidies (3rd rank)
- Germany is (as the 3rd biggest economy in the world) only ranked 23 for tax standards and regulations as well as social norms and values for an entrepreneurial climate - the same old malaise
- 2.1% of German are young entrepreneurs (people that start a business first time) that brings Germany the 22nd rank
